Holly's Re Posted Post

Mom was doing much better today.  she had a full day of therapy.  They had her doing everything from practicing doing buttons & zippers to strength exercises.  Heidi said she even walked down the hall by herself (with the therapist holding on).  The therapists said she worked very hard today.
She was much more alert today and talking more.  Dad asked her today if she knew where she was and she said 'in the depths of hell'.  I took Emery with me to see her today and she asked Emmy if she had a 'fun and electrifying time on her date'.  She also told her it 'looked divine'. If you are sitting with her, write down the funny stuff she says in the notebook so that we will have many more 'Jude-isms' for the book!
The food they feed her is horrible.  She took the lid off of her lunch and said 'ooh disgusting'. If  any of you are sitting with her and they bring food that she won't eat, go to the cafeteria & get her some soup, yogurt, smoothie etc.  Hopefully she will be on more solid foods soon.  The therapist said that is the first thing they are working on (helping her swallow better).
Also we need to push her to drink as much water as possible.  She is not drinking very much.  Also remind her to go to the bathroom!
The doctor was very happy today with her progress!

When I left mom she seemed to be a little better. She could push the nurses button and walked to the bathroom two more times. The poor nurse.  Still confused but I think a little more alert and able to say a few things.

I've been trying to send this out since this morning but it's been a busy day, & it's just getting busier! Mom has been moved out of ICU! Yay!! She is now in room 1204- 12th floor, Rm 1204! She was doing about the same this morning as she was yesterday but has perked up a bit after her bed ride to the therapy floor. Not because she's excited about it or anything, but because it woke her up a bit!  I'll send a more detailed update on Jessica & Toms awesome new blog they set up for us all to stay updated, sign-up for times we can be here with mom, etc.

Two quick things: Jess & Thomas, thank you so much for all you did to get this Blog. It will be so helpful (I haven't had a chance to go in and figure it out yet so will attach this email update to the blog as soon as I can figure it out!) the second thing is they only want immediate family members here during therapy hours which are from 8a - 4p. Then they only want one- two family members at the most, here during therapy. Then, they only want us here until 8-9p latest. We'll have to discuss all of this as a family later.

As for now, there's the quick update and Therapy begins tomorrow!

Talk to you all soon!
Amy

Thanks to the Benedicts and an Info Link

This Blogander (yup... just made that up) is great. Thanks for setting this up Thomas and Jessica.

I've been researching evolving and ischemic strokes and found this to be a great summary article with a lot of relevant information to Judy's specific situation.

Update By Heather 10-9-13

When I got here at around 5 mom was doing quite good. She was pretty alert until around 8 where it seems to have definitely waned since then. However Mary her night nurse reminded me that the 4th-5th day are usually the peak days. She ate her mashed up food great however she used her left hand. But she got it in there. The nurse told me that we need to help her slow down so she doesn't aspirate. She was shoveling it in pretty fast   Mary is on tonight and says she is a worrier by nature so she will be keeping a close eye on her. I am going to stay until 10 or 10:30 so call me if you need me.
